    A fast moving book that puts into the middle of the web of intrigue and class conflict in Britain, Russia and Germany before, during and after the First World War with side trips to America and France. Written with the author's usual historical accuracy and careful depiction of his character's words, actions and thoughts which make them blend in seamlessly with real history. I am looking forward to reading the sequels next.

    This is the third novel I have read by Ken Follett, all equally gripping from page one. I recon that I've learned more real history reading this author than I'm ever likely to learn by other means. A real hardworking craftsman and I just love his work.
