    Having served in the forces I know humour is very important because it helps you to get past the bad things, this book though misses the mark and I am not even convinced that the author found it funny because the tone is so flat. My grandfather and 2 great uncles served in and survived The Great War but they never talked about it so I can only assume they did find it amusing at all.

    Very enjoyable read. The comedy of the situations described in the book have to be set against the grim reality of the war. Many of the stories seem rather the similar and the tone of the story-telling remains much the same throughout the book, but there are some very amusing anecdotes.
