    Such an exciting read. The characters were so well developed, so three dimensional they practically walked off the page. I had watched the first episode of the BBC adaptation before I read this however so I knew it was written by JK Rowling. I would recommend to the reader that they imagine it's a different writer, go in with a completely open mind. I feel it does the author more credit that way as you aren't continually making comparisons to her other works. Only very slight criticism is Robin, Holliday Grainger's acting of the part made her a little more understandable but at the same time, what's in a book and in an adaptation will be different owing to the differing methods of story telling. The entire book will teach you not to judge anyone by their covers, including the new budding duo of Comoran and Robin. Highly recommend and am well aware that I have become annoying to all my nearest and dearest by telling them to read it! Hope you enjoy.

    This type of book is the very reason my favourite genre is crime thriller ❤️ so sharp, so interesting and a brilliant story line. Love the characters, cannot wait to see this adapted for TV (really hope they do the books justice). I love this whole series and I cannot wait for lethal white and others that follow! By far my favourite author ✨
  • A riveting read

    I got this (cheaply) some time back and was sitting in in my iPad collection. I decided to read it and wasn't disappointed at all. Love the main character and the plot wove with layers of good storytelling. I'm definitely going to purchase the follow up book, Silkworm. So glad that JKR has thrown the mantle of Harry Potter off and headed in a new direction.

    I ultimately enjoyed this book but I felt the first half of the book focused more on the establishing of the main characters and their back-story than plot development. I appreciate that the scene needs to be set but I felt that to some extent this was done at the expense of the storyline.The later half of the book featured more actual detective work and consequently moved along at a faster pace. I'm looking forward to reading the second in this series as I assume that with the characters and their situation already established the solving of a case will feature more prominently.

    Slow start to the story. Lots of other detail thrown in. Easy for writer to withhold facts and not share them with the reader. Felt frustrated. Enjoyed growing relationship with Strike and Robin and really wanted her to remain as his secretary. Great at the end when everything came out and ends were sewn up. Nice touch that Cormoran gave Robin that dress. What a nice guy !

    Fantastic book introducing the complex characters of this series in a story of nail biting suspense! It twists and turns and is brilliantly read. Two more to go! I can't wait - but don't stop there JKR - I'm hooked!

    A book that makes you care about the character that the author has conceived; a clever, tortuous unravelling of clues, without arrogance. I immediately look for another book with Cameron Strike. Heartily recommended.
